THE REAL FOOD REBOOT
Healing
Week 4
Knowledge is key
I know, I know, animal protein is polluting our bodies?
This is a palm on forehead kind of moment for me too.
Don't shoot the messenger. This is just the platform where we share everything we've investigated with you so that you too can heal your body, totally, completely and permanently!
When we first heard that animal protein was not beneficial but actually harmful for us, we wanted to plug our ears and erase our memory.
We love meat. We love everything about meat, always have and probably always will.
We loved gluten, dairy, sugar too.
But I know you're thinking "Humans have been eating meat since the beginning of time." Yes. We initially had the same thought. We don't think the issue is that we are consuming animals. It's more so that we are consuming massive quantities of animal products daily with almost every meal, unlike the humans in the beginning of civilization. And to boot, we are consuming animals that are being raised in unsanitary and inhumane conditions and their bodies are responding with sickness. To give you an example, cows in particular are not meant by nature to survive on a grain and corn-only diet. Their gut becomes inflamed and with inflammation, comes disease. So then we do what comes natural, and we pump them full of medicine to treat and prevent additional illnesses. We are injecting animals with growth hormones (with the exception of poultry) so they can go to market quicker but the hormones & medicine linger in the meat that we eat. Our ancestors, the hunter-gatherer folks most certainly didn't eat the kind of meat we eat today and absolutely not in the frequency that we, as Americans consume it. So if your thought process has been that "humans have always eaten meat", please challenge the details of that statement.
There is much debate as to how all of the pharmaceuticals that are being passed from the meat into our bodies affect our health including hormone disruption & imbalance, super bugs with antibiotic resistance and early onset of puberty to name a few.
The whole idea of when meat was actually discovered to be the "highest quality protein" dates back to the 1800's. The paradigm was formed before we were ever born. We were born into a cultural belief that meat is necessary and is a superior form of protein just as Indians are born into a culture where it's unacceptable to eat beef and some Chinese are born into a culture where it's "normal" to only eat a plan-based diet. It's what we know because it's all we've ever known.
That doesn't make it factual!
This is a VERY brief overview in an attempt for you to begin the paradigm shift and at the very least be open to investigating yourself.
And side note: We DO eat meat.
We are just very plant-focused in our diet and choose to be intentional about when we consume animal products and are selective of the sourcing when possible.
So rather than including animal products into our daily diet, instead, we find whole food plant-based options at every chance.
This week you can:
Begin to put aside all of your prior beliefs (learned or formed unconsciously) about meat being a mainstay and an optimal source of protein in a healthy diet.
Sometimes our preconceived ideas stand in the way of our growth.
Please be open to this idea and investigate. The evidence is there but the jury's split.
Don't take it from us.
Do your own research and be your own best advocate!
In Square 3, we'll challenge you to 30 days of animal-product-free eating.
You can be your own judge.
Don't forget to record in your journal how you feel!
Here's a great video from Rip Esselstyn, son of Caldwell Esselstyn who is the plant-based Director of Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Reversal Program at the Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute.
Power is in knowledge.
